A mood board is the foundation of any branding project, serving as a visual guide to conceptualize all the elements of the project and see if they complement each other. It is a collage of images, colors, patterns, and fonts that help you narrow down your choices before you start working on the actual design.
Creating an inspiration board is the first step and most important part of the branding process. It helps you to stay on track with your ideas and build a brand that reflects who you truly are. By considering how you want your clients to feel when they interact with your business, you can create a mood board that resonates with your audience and helps you stand out from the competition.
To create a mood board, follow these simple steps:
Step 1: Determine your brand personality. Ask yourself how you want people to feel when they see your brand. Do you want them to feel calm, energetic, or inspired? Use this as a guide when selecting images for your inspiration board.
Step 2: Collect visual inspiration. Gather images that represent your brand personality and bring them all together in an inspiration board. Aim for between 20 to 30 images and remove the ones that don’t fit with your brand personality. Pinterest is a great tool to help you with this step.
Step 3: Choose a color palette. Select around 4 to 6 colors that work together and complement each other. Pro tip: Use an image and take the colors from it to create a cohesive color palette.
Step 4: Select fonts. Choose fonts that relate to your brand personality. If you want your brand to feel boho, minimalist, organic, etc. search for those keywords when looking for fonts.
Now that you’ve created your mood board, share it with your designer. It will serve as a guide to help ensure that your branding project stays on track and aligns with your vision. With a strong mood board in place, you can build a brand that reflects your personality and resonates with your audience.
